D. Gene West Bio | Listen to him preach
Brother West is a native of Chester, WV. He is the son of the late Archie H. and Mary E. Henderson West. He married his wife, Shirley A. Bissett West, in1957. He graduated from Freed-Hardeman University with an A.A. in Religious Education, West Liberty University with an A.B. Liberal Arts degree majoring in Philosophy and Religion and Fairmont University with a B.S. in Community Psychology. He was baptized into Christ by his friend and mentor J. W. Nutter in 1950 at the age of thirteen and began to preach at age fifteen.
He has taught Bible classes and preached regularly since 1953. He also taught for four years at Ohio Valley University, and teaches regularly in the WVSOP. He preached for the church in Hundred, WV, Martins Ferry, Ohio, and Kissimmee, FL (a mission work). He returned to WV to work with the Hillview Terrace church of Christ before moving to Vienna, WV to labor with Grand Central Avenue church. After his work in Grand Central Avenue, he worked with the Oakwood Road Church and the Thistle Drive church before moving back to Moundsville, WV in 2001 to labor again with the Hillview Terrace church of Christ. In 2001 he began visiting and preaching for churches in England and Scotland assisting missionaries and small churches in that land.
He has authored several commentaries, especially for students at the WVSOP. Avenging His Holy Saints, Apostles and Prophets is a work in Revelation. There is a series of commentaries, entitled A Student’s Commentary on Hebrews, Philippians, Philemon, Paul’s Letter to the Church in Rome, Galatians and the Book of Acts.
